About me

Hi! I'm Hannah-Lily. I recently graduated from the University of Oxford studying English Language and Literature with a First Class B.A. (Hons). I am available for essay help, tutoring and proof reading.

English has always been my passion, although it was difficult for me to choose between my A-Levels for what to study at university. My favourite part of my degree was studying language and how it can be used in exciting, beautiful and subversive ways. I didn't have a favourite module - studying all different types of literature was what made my course great.

I won the Gibbs Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement while at Oxford, and achieved 'best performance in a three hour timed exam'. My teaching experience means that I feel confident sharing my skills in exam preparation with students. I myself took time out of secondary school because of ill health, but was able to achieve A*s in all of my qualifications nevertheless. I believe that this is because exams and difficult subjects at school are all about how we approach learning in an accessible way. For example, maths was really difficult for me but with the help of a good tutor I was able to excel. I really hope to be able to share the passion I have for the subjects I teach with students in a way that helps them achieve tangible results in their grades. While it can seem daunting, it's a very achievable reality and I hope I can inspire students through my own experience.

About my sessions

My sessions are all about listening to the student and building on their strengths. My own experience has taught me that while the exam system can seem extremely generic and like there's only one right way to do it, there's a million different paths a student can take to learn the information they need to succeed.

By listening to the student and working on what they excel at I am able to build confidence and inspire them to be excited about learning. Any problem seems more solvable when you feel like you have the brains to solve it and that is what I try to inspire in my students. With a new armour of academic confidence we can build a rigorous toolkit that breaks questions down into straight forward answers, so that students look at questions and understand what is being asked of them and feel confident that they can provide those answers.
