About me

About me:

I am a first year history student at Cambridge University with a passion for all things historical! I studied History, English Literature, Classics and Latin at Pre-U and A-level, and also did an EPQ.

I am friendly and enthusiastic, and really believe in the benefits of tutoring – I myself was tutored in Latin for my Pre-U (A level equivalent). I have experience in informally tutoring Latin at GCSE and History at AS level, and also have the Language and Sports Leaders awards for leading lessons with pupils aged 4 to 11. I really enjoy sharing my love of history with people, and want my students to be as confident and prepared for their exams as possible.

Subjects and expertise:

I have stated the areas I have studied at GCSE, A level and degree level – but I can apply my knowledge of essay writing and exam techniques to all areas of History, English, Classics and Latin.

History (GCSE and A-level):

Essay writing technique – structure, time planning, content etc. I will look at the specific requirements of your exam board to tailor my teaching to you, and help you get the top marks. (I did Edexcel).

Looking at controlled assessments.

Expertise in the American West (GCSE) and medicine through time (GCSE), civil rights USA (AS level), Korea and Vietnam (AS level), Britain 1688-1830 (A level and degree) and China 1900-2000 (A level).

Classics (A-level):

Essay writing technique – same again as for history. (I did OCR).

Expertise in Greek drama [Medea, Trojan Women, Agamemnon and Ajax] (AS level), Spartan Society and Culture (AS level), Roman Republic 81BC-31BC (A level) and the Iliad and the Aeneid (A level).

English Literature (GCSE and A level):

Essay writing technique – same again. (I did OCR).

Expertise in The Picture of Dorian Grey, W. B. Yeats, Top Girls, The Secret Scripture, The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox (all AS level); King Lear, ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore, William Blake, Tennyson, A Doll’s House, Great Expectations (all A level).

Latin [GCSE tutoring, and I have a Pre-U qualification [Distinction1 = equivalent to A*]:

Grammar, syntax, vocabulary etc.

Literature – criticism and analysis, writing about the set texts. (I did OCR for GCSE).

Expertise in Livy and Virgil and good knowledge of Horace, Cicero, Sallust etc.

The Sessions:

The sessions will be tailored to you, and will therefore be guided by what you need to cover. I will need to know what time periods/texts you are studying, and what specifically you are struggling with, and will then use lots of different means (past papers, discussion, essay feedback etc.) to try to get you as confident as possible and grab you the best marks!

I am also very happy to help you with personal statements and interview preparation – I remember how stressful it can be and, having gone through the Oxbridge application process myself, am more than willing to give you advice!

What next?

Feel free to message me with any questions, or book at free ‘Meet the Tutor’ session to see whether you think I could help you!
