About me

Hi, I'm Marina! I am a second year student at the University of Edinburgh studying Psychology and Business. I have achieved 13 IGCSE's (5A*'s, 5A's and 3B's) and completed the IB diploma with 37 points. I have had a passion for psychology for many years and hope to share this through my tutorials. I have achieved 13 IGCSE's (5A*'s, 5A's and 3B's) and completed the IB diploma with 37 points. I have had a passion for psychology for many years and hope to share this through my tutorials. Having completed Psychology at both IGCSE and IB level (A* / 6 respectively), I understand what examiners are looking for and how to succeed. Also, I am both a Spanish and English native speaker and have helped many younger students at school who were struggling with these subjects, meaning I have experience tutoring. I believe I am flexible and able to adapt to the needs of the students whether that is explaining a difficult topic, going through past papers or simply gaining confidence when answering exam questions. I can help students understand topics which may seem difficult at first by using insightful new perspectives.

About my sessions

I consider myself to be goal driven person, thus I would begin each lesson by discussing the goals we will achieve during our time together. Let that be understand a specific topic, solve a difficult equation, etc. I'm also a firm believer that "doing" is the most powerful learning tool and thus would ask my students at the start of each class, to briefly explain what we have covered in the previous class - this would allow them to reflect and deeply understand what was taught.

I want to tailor each of my lessons specifically to what the student is struggling with, whether that is understanding a difficult topic, going through past papers or simply gaining confidence when answering exam questions. During my lessons I will also keep checking the students progress to ensure they really understand the concepts. I will also spend some time towards the end of the lesson going through exam technique and specific study skills which will help them succeed.

Adding to this, I enjoy using different techniques and tools when teaching including videos, diagrams, images, games... as I understand that each student is different and some may benefit for these non-conventional methods of teaching.
