About me

Hi! I'm currently an undergraduate student at the University of Oxford, studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics, able to tutor Economics up to A-Level and History and Maths up to GCSE. My degree involves a combination of essay-writing and more mathematical and analytical methods, so I'm not at all out of practice in the skills I tutor.

As my degree choice would suggest, I take a regular, everyday interest in the social sciences and the way they affect the world around us. Although a passion for a subject is not essential to do well in it - several of the GCSEs I took certainly didn't inspire me - it can help, and I hope to at least attempt to inspire some genuine interest in the subjects I teach.

My general ideas for the way lessons will be taught are outlined below, but I am willing to tailor my tutoring the needs of the student and parents as requested.

Finally, if you're looking for a specialist tutor on Edexcel Economics B, Russian history 1855-1964 or British history 1906-1957, I'm your man, as I took all of these at A-Level; other exam boards are of course welcome also.

Hope to speak to you soon!

About my sessions

A key principle of mine is that no question is a stupid question. If students are afraid to ask about something they're unsure of, then they will be unable to develop a full understanding of a topic or concept. It's this - understanding - that I feel is key to my role as a tutor. It is of course possible to revise by memorising numbers or lists with brute force, but a much easier way is to attempt to fully grasp the ins and outs of a concept, which then often leads to the hard work of...

A key principle of mine is that no question is a stupid question. If students are afraid to ask about something they're unsure of, then they will be unable to develop a full understanding of a topic or concept. It's this - understanding - that I feel is key to my role as a tutor. It is of course possible to revise by memorising numbers or lists with brute force, but a much easier way is to attempt to fully grasp the ins and outs of a concept, which then often leads to the hard work of memorisation being done for you.

One method of developing understanding is to discuss concepts in the abstract, but an alternative is to do so via practice questions - this has the advantage of also enabling the student to learn how to apply their understanding where it will be needed most (the exam). My tutoring, therefore, will be built in large part around practice questions, whether through written work or one-to-one discussions.
