About me

Hi!

My name is Ihtisham and I'm currently in my third year of a Masters in Mathematics at University of Oxford. Hi!

My name is Ihtisham and I'm currently in my third year of a Masters in Mathematics at University of Oxford. Mathematics genuinely excites me as it is a universal language that is used all over the world to solve complicated problems. I find teaching maths to be very rewarding; learning is one thing but then being able to pass that knowledge onto someone else is a beautiful concept.

I have experience in presenting solutions to maths problems on a regular basis at my university and also currently tutor a student on GCSE mathematics. So I have plenty of practice in being able to clearly explain methods and ideas.

My firm understanding of GCSE and A Level Mathematics means that I can often explain things in various different ways to ensure a student understands, as I respect everyone learns differently. Also, having extensive experience in viewing A-Level and GCSE mark schemes means I am excellent at demonstrating to students exactly what examiners want to see.

I am part of my university college rowing team and also take part in go-karting for my university. As an individual, I am extremely patient and my main priority would always be for a student to be comfortable with what they are learning, and most of all, I would try my best to make it as fun and engaging as possible.

I would start by giving a quick recap on previous tutorial, then follow with a brief outline of the topic for this tutorial.

I would then give a summary of key knowledge and ideas. I would prepare notes beforehand, and then allow students to make their own notes if they need to. After this, we would work through and talk through a wide range of examples.

I would then give the student a sample exam question to answer, so I know where (and if) they need further help. I would end by asking the student what they found useful, how a tutorial could be better, and some thought on what to cover next time.

In my opinion, for GCSE and A Level, the main learning technique for success is to do a wide range of examples to really help a student get to grips with exactly what they can expect in the exams. My aim for each tutorial is for a student to gain real value out of it, while also enjoying it.
