About me

I'm Anya, I'm 18 and study Medicine at St Andrews University. I am thoroughly enjoying the course so far as I am learning more in depth and how to apply knowledge to real life situations whilst also developing my communication skills. I love how the knowledge I acquire through my course can be applied in many different situations and be used to help those in need.

I enjoyed GCSEs and the wide range of subjects that you could take. I had lots of GCSE exams but this made me concentrate hard on the subjects. A levels I found a lot more difficult and worked very hard to try and ace the parts of the subjects I was studying with. I, too, had a tutor in Chemistry and also attended clinics and help sessions with Biology and Maths.

I love to play golf and am part of the Ladies Golf Club committee up here as a Freshers' rep. I get to help organise different events and help out with general admin. I also get to know lots of other girls who share the same passion.

I really hope that I can help you develop your skills and feel more confident in your chosen subject. I will try my best to help you in any way I can. Please let me know if there's anything I can do better!

About my sessions

I will look at the topics that need to be covered ahead of the lesson and create a plan for the lesson.

To begin with I will start off with explaining the basics of the topic. I will then give some basic questions to see how well they have understood the concept. Once I am happy that they understand the basics of the lesson then I will bring in some more complicated parts. Again, I will assess the level of understanding with some questions.

After about 4 different topics I will compile a list of questions for the pupil to go through. We can either do these during the lesson or I will give them to the pupil to complete for the next lesson. We can then go through these and revisit any topics that the pupil gets confused on and try and iron out any issues.

Also, if there are confidence issues with any other topics we can revisit these too.

I will measure progress by occasionally giving past papers to be done and then marked. I will keep a note of these scores and we can see together how the pupil improves but hopefully these papers will highlight the areas for improvement and again we can revisit these to get the best grade we can!

I hope to keep the learning fun and very interactive to ensure the pupil is engaged with the work. I think this is necessary as in a class room it is easy to tune out when the attention is not focused on you.

Simplify, leaving your answer as a quadratic: (2x + 3)/(x+4) - (3x - 6) = 4

(2x + 3)/(x+4) - (3x - 6) = 4 Initial equationTimes all terms by (x + 4) (2x + 3) - (3x - 6)(x + 4) = 4 (x + 4)Multiply out the brackets (2x + 3) - (3x2 + 12x - 6x - 24) = 4x + 16Remove from brackets by factoring in the minus sign 2x + 3 - 3x2 - 12x + 6x + 24 = 4x + 16Group the terms 2x - 12x + 6x - 3x2 + 3 + 24 = 4x + 16 Add/Subtract the terms -4x - 3x2 + 27 = 4x + 16Move all terms to one side 3x2 + 8x - 11 = 0(2x + 3)/(x+4) - (3x - 6) = 4 Initial equationTimes all terms by (x + 4) (2x + 3) - (3x - 6)(x + 4) = 4 (x + 4)Multiply out the brackets (2x + 3) - (3x2 + 12x - 6x - 24) = 4x + 16Remove from brackets by factoring in the minus sign 2x + 3 - 3x2 - 12x + 6x + 24 = 4x + 16Group the terms 2x - 12x + 6x - 3x2 + 3 + 24 = 4x + 16 Add/Subtract the terms -4x - 3x2 + 27 = 4x + 16Move all terms to one side 3x2 + 8x - 11 = 0
