I am currently spending 6 months in the South of France as part of my year abroad (working at a Yacht Brokerage) so I am keen to help anyone who wants some French help. I have also read lots of the books on the English A Level and GCSE syllabus so I feel qualified to help students gather ideas and structure their essays for their upcoming exams or tests. I got full marks in my A Level course work so I am more than happy to help students improve their grades in this area too.

I had to sit a HAT test and an MLAT test to get into Oxford, and I sat 4 interviews so feel free to contact me if you want any hints or tips about the Oxbridge application process!

About my sessions

All lessons start with a recap of what was learnt last week with some recap exercises. This is also the opportunity for the student to ask questions about the homework which we talk through together.

What I've often found in my experience of English tutoring is that students already have the answers, but they just need to develop them a little more. In terms of students coming to me for English Language and Literature help, my method of teaching will be locating themes/language techniques/form/structure in texts and developing ideas that the student already has. This may be through mind maps or diagrams. I have access to Jstor where I regularly read articles on literary texts and I will be able to share articles with my students and give them secondary sources to help cement their argument.

For French I can offer speaking, reading and writing practice. I help students improve their grammar by setting tasks and going through their mistakes with them to ensure that they understand where they are going wrong. I read texts with them and ask them questions about their comprehension.

At the end of the lesson I set the homework and give feedback on the homework submitted.

I evaluate the student's process with every lesson so that by the end of our sessions together they can see how they have improved. I evaluate their weaker/stronger areas so I know best what to work on with them in future lessons.
