About me

Hi! I'm Ellie, a first year Classicist at Oxford University, who has completed both Latin and Greek IB and GCSE. I studied at Wellington College prior to starting university, and am able to help with essay technique, grammar and literature topics. I have been studying Latin since I was 9 and Greek as an optional class since I was 10. I have always been passionate about mythology and the love of the languages and history that came with it. I am also keen to help in university applications.

About my sessions

My online lessons will be tailored to the particular aspects the student wants to cover, whether that be exam technique, translation method or particular grammar topics. I would use sample examination questions and exercises to implement what has been learnt, and set short tests for morphology, or grammar.

Questions Ellie has answered

How should I structure a 6 mark literature question?

Firstly you should specify what exactly the question is looking for (i.e. how does the language used convey a sense of urgency). Make sure your responses are focused on that topic. The three points you make should include primarily the point you are making, the evidence in Greek (and translated), followed with analysis describing how stylistic choice emphasises the sense. For example, one might structure it is 'X conveys a sense of urgency through the swift pace of the language. This is demonstrated in the Greek phrase '...' (translation). The stylistic use of (insert technique, i.e. asyndeton) speeds up the rhythm of the phrase and enhances the speed.'Firstly you should specify what exactly the question is looking for (i.e. how does the language used convey a sense of urgency).
