About me

Sometimes we all need to be reminded why we like a subject so much and I think tutoring is the best way to do that. My sessions will focus on discussion on texts and topics that interest you, as this is the best way for you to gain more confidence in the subject. One of the most valuable things I have learned whilst being at university is that you don't have to like every single book you study to still love English. My sessions will focus on discussion on texts and topics that interest you, as this is the best way for you to gain more confidence in the subject. One of the most valuable things I have learned whilst being at university is that you don't have to like every single book you study to still love English. Even if a book doesn't initially interest you, there will still be something hidden that sparks your fascination! Exams and university applications can often detract from how much you otherwise enjoy a subject, but hopefully through tutoring sessions you can be reminded of this passion. Since sixth form at school I have been deeply invested in tutoring, leading group and individual tutoring sessions throughout the school day as well as doing private tuition. I also set up a reading group for younger students to encourage confidence and critical thinking. I currently volunteer for homeless food and book distribution charities whilst at university, often discussing the books that have been shared whilst distributing food. This summer I did an internship at the Education Endowment Foundation, focusing my research on bridging attainment gaps and improving student confidence and outcomes.

About my sessions

Carefully planned and spaced out revision sessions will help to make exams far less daunting, and sessions to simply chat about university life and go through the application process will make it all seem worth it! My sessions will be planned individually around how the student learns and works best, crafting an environment specific for them. More generally, however, communication is crucial in tutoring and so my sessions will be based on discussion of a particular theme or idea per session....

Carefully planned and spaced out revision sessions will help to make exams far less daunting, and sessions to simply chat about university life and go through the application process will make it all seem worth it! My sessions will be planned individually around how the student learns and works best, crafting an environment specific for them. More generally, however, communication is crucial in tutoring and so my sessions will be based on discussion of a particular theme or idea per session. Basing each session on one theme, producing mindmaps, spider diagrams, and plans during the lesson, creates a kind of 'revision pack' ready for the student to further develop, having already discussed and furthered their ideas on the topic. This will create an unpressurised environment to allow for discussion of what you find interesting, allowing these interests be critically developed by adding literary techniques, critical reading and contextual information as the session goes on.
