About me

About me:

I graduated from the University of Exeter this summer with a 2:1 in Human Bioscience.  I am passionate about science and am currently applying to do a PhD.

I am enthusiastic and patient and I enjoy the challenge of explaining new concepts.  I have had experience teaching and coaching in both England and South Africa.   I also have 3 younger siblings and have always enjoyed helping them with their school work.

How can I help?

I got an A in Biology in Chemistry at A level and an A* in Geography and I remember that exams and revision can be a really stressful time at school and a little one-to-one help can make all the difference.  There is a huge amount of content to get your head around and I can help you with understanding and learning it.

I remember both the stress and also the excitement of applying for university.  I can help you through this by explaining the how it all works, talking you through UCAS, proof reading and helping you with your personal statement and acting as a sounding board for all those tricky decisions.

What now?

If you have any questions book a ‘Meet the Tutor Session’ or send me a ‘Webmail’.  I look forward to meeting you and helping you with any questions you have, big or small!

An enzyme is a globular protein that acts as a biological catalyst.  They work by reducing the activation energy of chemical reactions, which increases the rate of reactions.

All enzymes have an optimum temperature.

The rate of reaction increases as temperature increases, up to the optimum temperature.  This is because both the enzyme and substrate molecules have more kinetic energy so move around faster and are more likely to collide.  A collision creates an enzyme substrate complex, which triggers the catalytic effect.

As temperature rises above the optimum temperature the particles with the molecule vibrate more energetically, which cause the bonds to break.  This means that the active site changes shape and the enzyme becomes denatured.  Enzyme substrate complexes can no longer form and the catalytic effect is lost.
