About me

Hello, I'm Lola! I'm 20 and currently studying History of Art and English at the University of Nottingham. I'm in my second year now and absolutely love my course as it enables me to think both logically and creatively and has massively improved my researching and writing skills in a just short period of time.

Although I found sixth form to be a stressful period of time due to the heavy workload and multiple deadlines, I enjoyed all my subjects immensely, and they set me in good stead for the university experience. I am super passionate about both English and Art History.

I am sociable, easy to get on with and very patient, having worked with children from nursery age, right up to secondary school students, and also have helped to run a holiday club with the YMCA for the past year or so, teaching children Science, and leading Art and Sports classes.

I have tutoring experience, having helped two students with Spanish and Maths GCSE when I was at sixth form, but have not been tutoring recently due to taking some time to adapt to the first year of uni - I am looking forward to starting back up again.

About my sessions

I think the best approach to help students improve is always to listen to what they have to say - find out what they want to focus on, and to help guide them through the solution, without being overpowering. At the end of a session, it is vital to check that the lesson has been internalised - this can be checked by doing a few final example questions or by asking the student how well they think they understand on a scale of 1-5 for example.

It is important to be patient and understand that the student doesn't have equal knowledge as you, and so to be thoughtful with constructive criticism. If one method of explanation doesn't work, it's important to be adaptable, to think of

another way of making your meaning clear and understandable.

My lessons will be structured what methods work best for the student, something to be established within the first session. From here on I would hope that the student will come to me with areas of the subject that they find challenging, and we can work through the idea, practice example questions and finally homework could be set (if their workload isn't too heavy already) to go over and be marked next session.

Lola was an excellent tutor, and really broke down the issues I was having, clearly and concisely. She has reduced a lot of the stress I was having regarding English and my EPQ, and within two lessons she has brought up my confidence immensely!
