About me

I study Human Neuroscience at the University of Birmingham; this combines my favourite parts of biology and psychology! Getting to university was difficult as there is so much pressure on performing in GCSE and A Level examinations, but it's all worth it once you're on the other side of the exam.

I got through my exams with a lot of hot chocolate (highly recommended) and study breaks (vital). Mind maps and flashcards worked for me as I needed to organise the content differently from how it was delivered in the lesson, then test myself to see if it had worked. Testing yourself is important to see if your revision technique is working for you. You need to find a different way of revising if the information isn't going in.

I appreciate we all have different ways of learning, but I hope my experiences will make me a better tutor to teach you. If you think I am the tutor for you, grab your hot chocolate and revision notes and we'll get started right away!

About my sessions

In the first session we will talk about what topics you most want to go over, how you have revised previously and what learning strategies work for you. I will plan future sessions based on this feedback. In my experience learning is easiest when information is organised, so we will have a list of objectives for every session.

If you don't have a preference of what to cover, my lessons will be subject focused. In the first half we will go through one topic area look at...

If you don't have a preference of what to cover, my lessons will be subject focused. In the first half we will go through one topic area look at what you already know and revise what you're uncertain of with interactive tasks, diagrams and questions. I recommend that pupils take notes on paper throughout the lesson.

The second half of the lesson will be focused on how to answer exam questions on this area. We will look at previous papers and exam question examples from your exam board and discuss how to get the best marks on these questions.

However, this plan is flexible and can be adapted to suit what you need from your tutor!

Annabel is far from professional and should not be offering tuition. I would have previously posted a good enough review about Annabel if she hadn't become so complacent, careless, and frankly, disrespectful in our last session. I consider myself to be a polite person and utterly undeserving of such treatment. I have never before been patronised in this manner by a tutor. How she was capable of making judgemental comments to me ("I never think you understand anything"), as though she were speaking down to a complete idiot, bewilders me. She recommended I search for evening classes "at a college somewhere," knowing no one would accept me this late in the year. She had stated that she does not recommend online tuition "because it's not as good as face to face"; what an incredibly stupid and odd thing to say considering what she is doing for pocket money. If this is true, it doesn't make sense to continue online tuition, knowing it is not comparable with face to face tuition. As I said, I would have previously given her a good enough review (maximum 3 stars) as she was quick to send me her notes in the first sessions. However, I have recently sent her essays to be marked and have received the most useless and vague feedback. She didn't even provide a mark, instead asking with blasé indifference, "what is it you don't like about it?" whilst loudly munching on her porridge (yes, she also eats during her sessions). It seems Annabel can have her good moments, but this is a job, consistency is needed. Students are not paying to have to worry later on about whether they will be dumped last-minute by their tutors or have to witness unprofessional behaviour from them whenever it suits them.
