About me

I am a 2nd year medical student with a passion for learning and helping others. My favourite parts about Medicine are anatomy and clinical placement, as the combination of physiology, pathology and people skills appeals to me, and am inspired by the hard work of doctors. I spend a lot of my spare time volunteering, mentoring and teaching as part of societies such as Teddy Bear Hospital, Batley Homeless Project, Widening Access to Medical School, Leeds Medics African-Caribbean society and also...

My favourite parts about Medicine are anatomy and clinical placement, as the combination of physiology, pathology and people skills appeals to me, and am inspired by the hard work of doctors. I spend a lot of my spare time volunteering, mentoring and teaching as part of societies such as Teddy Bear Hospital, Batley Homeless Project, Widening Access to Medical School, Leeds Medics African-Caribbean society and also support adults with learning disabilities alongside additional projects and societies I am part of. My unique and varied experiences mean I have an open approach to learning and seek to inspire students to want to improve and want to develop. I am able to adapt to individual needs and hold a certificate in Autism Awareness. Each student has different goals and aims so it is important to establish these in order create a useful learning experience. I aim to utilise my own study tips and many of the skills I have learnt in my degree so far and my past times to actualise each student's potential and translate this into performance, confidence and competency.

Identifying the subject area, the exam board and learning objectives which should be achieved to reach a specific level of competency are the basis by which each session will be prepared so challenging topics can be tackled in a structured way to build both understanding, subject knowledge and thus improve grades. I will use exam board approved textbooks to ensure that what I teach is accurate and uses the correct terminology to gain those extra marks. Other learning mediums such as Youtube videos and research articles will help me when explaining things such as mechanisms or complicated multistep biological processes for example. Material covered will be regularly reviewed with questions from past exam papers and feedback given based on mark schemes to monitor progress and together see what changes can be made. I found that during my A levels, testing myself with exam questions under timed conditions was a really good measure of my ability to apply knowledge and not just retain it. I aim to make my sessions as interactive as possible with plenty of opportunity for questions and making use of the white board feature for diagrams and equations. One of the most useful study techniques I learned is finding mnemonics to remember things and I hope this will be useful for my students also!
