About me

Hi! I’m currently a second year Maths & Economics student at University and am loving studying these subjects . Personally, I do not mind taking exams and I think I can help students find their best way of revision because my revision techniques were certainly different than my friends.

In terms of being a tutor, I worked at a maths tuition company during my sixth form years and I also was a mentor in school. I have even continued this enjoyment of helping others over to university where I am a PAL mentor this year to first years of my course. Drawing from all this experience: I think a tutor is most helpful when there is an open flow of communication between the tutor and student, so as the tutor can adapt according to the students’ needs.

The main reason I like being a tutor is because I find it to be greatly satisfying helping other students, furthermore, teaching is one of the best ways to reinforce one's own knowledge which is helpful to me.

About my sessions

During my lessons, I will make sure to regularly ask my students if there is anything I can improve upon. Furthermore, my lessons will always include some form of a recap of previous lessons as I have found that useful personally with my lecturers. I am an organised person and will definitely prepare the lesson in advance, factoring in time for any questions the student may have. Upon first meeting the student I would ask what their personal goal is, whether it be to better understand a subject in general or to achieve a certain grade in a qualification, and would continually bear that in mind, hoping that eventually they achieve that.

With all subjects I think the key to effective revision is practice and will aim to provide as much of that as possible in my lessons.Though it can be disheartening and scary to test oneself I truly think it’s what helped me achieve such high grades throughout my academic life. For my students I will provide end of topic tests not only to keep parents informed of their child's progress but to provide the student with a comprehensive summary at the end of all their lessons.

Finally, I will aim to keep my lessons interactive and interesting, having had a maths tutor for seven years, I know how monotonous it can be!
