About me

Having loved Mathematics at a very early age it was quite natural that I opted for a career that incorporated numbers, calculations and logic. Having graduated in Chemical Engineering recently, I now work in industry for a chemicals manufacturer applying everything I’ve learnt as a student – but the learning never stops! 😊

I’ve always loved to inspire and support students having been in those very shoes myself, which is why I’ve been involved in many initiatives in the past years; most noticeably having spent a year supporting teachers in GCSE lessons in a school setting to help provide the boost students require to help them achieve their best. I’ve also been attending schools in an inspirational context for many years inspiring students to pursue careers in STEM based subjects. I’ve also broadened my horizons beyond a STEM based mindset and taken a course on intercultural competence learning all about differences that exist in learning and ‘doing’ styles and how to deal with these which has helped me get the best out of

situations in the past.

Every individual is different and has a different learning style but ultimately each individual can be categorised under 4 primary styles; visual; auditory, kinaesthetic and reading/writing.

Ultimately the general structure of lessons will be as follows:

Brief introduction to the upcoming lesson to reinforce what the aims will be (& briefly recapping the previous lesson if applicable).

Main part of the lesson (~30 mins) the topic in question will be explained theoretically (& how it applies to the real world as I’ve found this helps motivate in the past). This is where the learning style will be accommodated to, whether it’s working through a question or verbally explaining the concept/theory.

The next ~20 mins will be to apply what has been learnt by practicing questions and with mathematics this is key as practice makes perfect! –This is where the students progress will be tracked.

The lesson will be wrapped up by revisiting the lesson aims and summarising what has been learnt.

The lesson plan is flexible and it can also be adjusted to accommodate for different aims, i.e. immediate exam preparation or homework support.

Bilal has been brilliant! He's been helping me prepare for a 2nd year engineering maths exam at university, mainly Laplace transforms and Fourier series. Bilal was able to talk me through and explain the methods as well as doing practice questions together. He has been more than happy to answer any questions between sessions, and even respond with written solutions. In addition to this, the sessions have regularly run past the hour mark in order to finish a question, showing Bilal is willing to go the extra mile to make sure you fully understand the material covered. Unfortunately, there were some areas that Bilal was unable to provide help with due to never being taught them himself, yet he was very honest about this and assisted me with finding a second tutor who would be able to help me on these topics.
