About me

I have always been fascinated by the natural world, and studying Biology gives me the opportunity to better understand how living things function. I'm particularly interested in Animal Behaviour, and interactions between animals. One of the most exciting things about Biology is I find that the more I learn, the more there is I want to know. I'm aiming for a career in research and academia, combining my love of Biology with my passion for teaching.

I have always worked hard for exams, although it took me a while to understand my own learning style to find the most effective ways to revise. It’s really important to me to study in ways that suit my own learning style and the way my brain works.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy Latin and Ballroom dancing and I'm a member of the beekeeping society at my university! I also speak some Spanish, and worked in Spain as an English teacher for a year, so I enjoy practicing Spanish as well. Learning is very important to me, and I have many interests outside of biology, so I am often reading about history, politics...anything really!

About my sessions

I aim to be patient and kind, and help you gain a deeper understanding of some of the trickier concepts in Biology! I like to get to know my students, and tailor my lessons to suit what fits them best, so a typical lesson for one student won’t necessarily be the same as a typical lesson for another. I like to explain things visually, and I also include a lot of “key points” in the notes I create in my lessons, so that these can be used by my students as a revision tool after the lesson is ove...

I aim to be patient and kind, and help you gain a deeper understanding of some of the trickier concepts in Biology! I like to get to know my students, and tailor my lessons to suit what fits them best, so a typical lesson for one student won’t necessarily be the same as a typical lesson for another. I like to explain things visually, and I also include a lot of “key points” in the notes I create in my lessons, so that these can be used by my students as a revision tool after the lesson is over. I also believe using past exam papers is important, and while not the only thing you should use to prepare for exams, it is crucial to understand exactly what the examiner is looking for. Going over past paper questions with students, and helping them to dissect their own answers and understand how to maximise their score, is an important part of my teaching. I like to set several smaller tasks for my students, rather than one large task for the entire session, as I believe this helps students to maintain concentration and motivation. As exams approach, these segments may become longer to allow for more focus on key areas. I will always keep the time allocations within a lesson flexible however, as of course everybody learns at different rates, and I believe it’s crucial for me to get to know my students strengths and weaknesses so that I can design the best lessons for them.
