About me

Hello everyone!

I am currently in my first year at Imperial College London studying towards an MSci Geophysics with a Year Abroad degree. I really love my degree because it seems to pull together all the subjects I love and uses them to qualitatively explain the workings of our exciting and mysterious planet!

Hello everyone!

I am currently in my first year at Imperial College London studying towards an MSci Geophysics with a Year Abroad degree. I really love my degree because it seems to pull together all the subjects I love and uses them to qualitatively explain the workings of our exciting and mysterious planet!

During my secondary school career, I believe I mastered the skills required to take exams, as illustrated by my academic record, which includes only A* grades for both IGCSEs and A Levels, as well as a High Achievers Award for the Highest Mark in the World in A Level Physics in 2017. I do however recognize that the so-much discussed exam technique takes time and practice to master. I can offer exam insights that go beyond A Levels and IGCSEs, having taken part twice in the International Geography Olympiad (iGeo), taking home one silver and one bronze medal. As someone who applied for both Physics and Geoscience, as well as to Cambridge, I can also offer extensive insight into the university application process.

When I am not studying our planet, I like to analyze ways to tackle global issues, which is something I do by being a proud member of Imperial’s Model United Nations society. I also represent my university as a student ambassador, by leading campus tours or assisting with outreach events. As a big sports fan, I try to keep in shape by playing badminton for the Royal School of Mines club.

About my sessions

As far as my tutoring style goes, I like to keep things simple for the student. I favour a mixed approach, whereby I will go through the key concepts in a lecture-style way, but always allowing the student to ask questions in order to ensure complete understanding of the material. I place a lot of weight on tutor-student interaction, so I will try hard to ensure that the student feels comfortable with my style, and I will act on any feedback provided, whether that is coming from students or t...

As far as my tutoring style goes, I like to keep things simple for the student. I favour a mixed approach, whereby I will go through the key concepts in a lecture-style way, but always allowing the student to ask questions in order to ensure complete understanding of the material. I place a lot of weight on tutor-student interaction, so I will try hard to ensure that the student feels comfortable with my style, and I will act on any feedback provided, whether that is coming from students or their parents.

I believe that the best way to learn is to combine a sound understanding of the material with fair amount of practice. I will consider that a student has done a ‘fair’ amount of practice, once they have had a go at every single type of question, and then went through it with me during sessions. I will therefore strive to ensure that my students get practice questions to try after each session. Their progress will be evaluated during the next session when we will go over their experience doing the questions and resolving any issues.

Finally, once exam time is approaching, we will focus more on revision and exam technique. We will go over the syllabus and see if there are any grey areas we need to go over again. We will review all the question command words we have encountered when doing questions and explain what is expected in each case, and then we will look at the exam paper format to formulate a strategy on how to best tackle the paper.
