About me

Hi, I am a first year medical student at Jesus College, University of Cambridge, and I am really excited to be a tutor! Hi, I am a first year medical student at Jesus College, University of Cambridge, and I am really excited to be a tutor! I clearly remember how stressful university applications and exams were and a bit of extra academic support and encouragement can sometimes make all the difference. I have had previous experience in tutoring through volunteering as an academic mentor in GCSE biology for 1 year for one student and in mathematics for another student, both in my previous school. Being a young tutor and having taken my own A- level and GCSE exam relatively recently, I will be able to keep my sessions focused and relevant to the new specification exams. Before I applied to university, I did a lot of work experience in different fields to make sure I chose the right course, and also visited a lot of university open days to make sure that the place I chose to study was the right one for me. Although my subject has a lot of contact hours, I definitely find plenty of time to do extracurricular activities and socialise. For example, I am currently playing netball, lacrosse and football for my college and am going to continue this for the rest of the year, as well as acting as the Freshers' Representative for my

College's Student Union, which is a lot of fun!

About my sessions

Every student will have different styles of learning and will have strengths in different areas, and so for my first session I will always aim to get to know my student's specific learning style so that I can adapt all my future sessions to suit them individually.

The content of my sessions can include academic tutoring and support for a specific subject, support with university applications or a combination of both. I think that interactive tutoring sessions, as opposed to just lec...

I think that interactive tutoring sessions, as opposed to just lecturing my student, are very important as they help the student to retain what they have learnt, encourage them to ask questions and also make the sessions more enjoyable. One of the ways I will achieve this is by engaging my students by asking them questions ; I will always start by asking questions on the key principles of a topic and then if then asking gradually more challenging questions that require application of knowledge and not just recall. This way, the student will also get used to the examination style, which is similar to this. That being said, I want to make sure my students get the most out of their sessions, so my sessions will be very flexible and dependent on what a particular student needs.
