About me

I am currently studying English at the University of Cambridge. I have been passionate about English literature ever since I could read, and I strongly believe that a genuine love or interest for a subject can be a huge contributor to success. It certainly makes the learning process a lot more enjoyable! An enthusiastic engagement with the texts being studied is what I hope to encourage in my students in order to develop active and original thought.

About my sessions

My tutorials emulate the format practised by Cambridge. A general but flexible template begins with a discussion surrounding the text, potentially fuelled by some short prior reading set by me in the previous class of an interesting or thought provoking article. We will then begin to apply what we have discussed to some mock exam and essay questions, creating detailed plans for potential responses. It is then an option for the student to go away and complete the essays, submitting them to me for assessment. Alternatively, if we feel it would be more constructive, I could provide the student with more reading to discuss for the following session.

I place an important emphasis on genuine engagement and interaction with the text. I think it's vital for the student to develop their own opinions and conclusions on the texts, which will set them apart form their peers, and will give them a toolbox of analytical thought that can be applied to any exam question they might be faced with. However, the sessions can be tailored to lean more towards essay writing skills, exam techniques, or practical skills in the case of Drama Studies, and Oxbridge interview preparation.

Rachel, Is a well organised and very effective Tutor. My son Ted is really benefiting from the sessions and relates really well with Rachel, even saying that she gets him. Rachel spent time understanding Teds particular needs and is delivering what he needs. I would be happy to recommend her to other students and parents. The whole My Tutor experience is fantastic and really filled a gap for us kind regards Gill Goodchild
