About me

My name is Hannah and I am currently studying Law and Spanish at the University of Bristol. I have always adored languages and I was lucky enough to grow up in Spain. I moved there at the age of 8 and returned to England at the start of year 10 in order to take my GCSEs. Growing up in Madrid enabled me to fully immerse myself in the language and attain a high level of fluency. I took the IGCSE Spanish in year 7 and got an A*. Taking exams will always be an overwhelming time in any young person's life, yet it is crucial to stay calm and take it step by step. When applying to university, there are so many different paths available that, initially, it may seem daunting. However, one piece of advice I would offer is to pick the subjects you love and that you want to engage with further, hence why I chose Spanish. Languages have always played a crucial role in my life and I cannot wait to embark on my new adventure during my 3rd year to another Spanish speaking country! During secondary school I was Head Girl whilst also taking on a part time job. Working at Explore Learning ( a tutoring company typically for younger children ) it enabled me to embrace teaching and really engage with the children. I often tutored in Maths and English (phonics, reading, writing, creative writing) and I thoroughly enjoyed every second as every child deserves the opportunity to thrive in an academic environment.

About my sessions

From my own personal experience one of the most fundamental ways to learn Spanish is to speak it. Once you force yourself to think in that language it naturally rolls off the tongue. Errors are there to be made, and I will correct you along the way but do not be scared to speak! Both GCSE and A-Level have a speaking component so I will be more than happy to go through that with you and work on pronunciation and fluency.

Another really important aspect of Spanish is writing and understanding. One way which I feel is really effective is through me saying certain phrases and the student writing them out. This not only proves you are understanding what is being said, yet also reveals the grammar and spelling behind each sentence. Writing it out also helps ingrain it into your mind.

Although grammar is often the most dreaded part of any language, it can also be really fun! Little tricks and a few songs will mean you will never forget your endings or if it is masculine or feminine. By mastering these techniques it can lead to the difference between an A and an A*! I also have plenty of super phrases for you to throw into your exam to WOW the examiner!
