About me

I am a third year medical student at the University of Liverpool. I got 45 points in the IB programme and it was thanks to specific way of learning that I designed for myself. I broke down each of the courses into smaller parts, established connections between them and came up with a schedule of studying so that each consecutive module is complementary. It not only allows you better understanding and appreciation of logical links between subjects but also saves you time (and tears.)

I strongly believe that there is no such thing like cramming or learning by heart and to truly know something is to understand. That is why I use a lot of comparisons, metaphors and examples to stimulate thinking, understanding and memory! It is about understanding the basics first to add on more knowledge just as like laying the foundation first to build a house on it.

About my sessions

In order to help someone with teaching I have to gauge what they already know and how good they are in absorbing new topics. In order to help someone with teaching I have to gauge what they already know and how good they are in absorbing new topics. What is more, it is crucial to identify ones way of learning as this will not only enable us to be efficient with the sessions but also it will give the student a lot of confidence and independence.

My sessions start with revision of material from last time or with checking students knowledge in a subject we are going to study. I do that by asking them open questions or giving them specific questions from exams.

Then we proceed to the part of exploring new topic with understanding why do we want to know it in the first place and explaining it. In this part I make sure I am listened to with maximum attention and always check if the student get what I mean.

If we are happy with new topic presentation bit then we proceed to the most important part which is doing questions - I prefer to give questions from exams as this is ultimately what we are aiming for. I always stress the importance of structuring your answer, coming up with a layout before we even write anything down to give the examiner proof of understanding but also allowing them to give us additional marks for cohesion and coherence.
