I found taking my A Levels a very pressuring and stressful period as I wanted to get into my first choice of university as well as discovering I had dyslexia during the first year of sixth form. To deal with it I chose to get a private tutor for Politics and RS. She helped me for an hour or two every week. This completely changed my perception of exams as I built tremendous confidence and was able to understand concepts that I had previously struggled with.

I aim to build my student's confidence by going over topics thoroughly, practising essay writing skills and revision techniques. It helps to try and view the essay through the markers eyes and learn how to prioritise information and present it fluidly.

My lessons will firstly focus on areas that the student lacks confidence and understanding. When each topic has been grasped and related to examples, then we will practice executing them in exam-format. Questions are often repeated and when the structure to answers become habitual, students will feel much calmer in the exam.

I encourage practising timed practice tests away from the lessons which I can then mark.

Depending on the students preferred way of learning, we will go through a variety of possible revision techniques. Different ways of revising helped me most during my exams as I changed the technique when ever I started to feel side-tracked or board. For example, mind-maps, online quiz's and highlighting key concepts in marked essays. Since figuring out my favourite ways to learn I have been unbelievably more confident and calm during exams.
