About me

I am a 3rd year student currently studying Aerospace Engineering at the University of Nottingham. I have a passion for everything Engineering, especially if it involves aviation. Maths and Physics give us insight into how things work and why objects behave in the ways they do - which I think is fascinating. I always aim to channel this passion into my tutoring; all while helping students achieve their potential and develop an appreciation for the subject.

My experience in education has helped me find different and relatable ways to explain complex concepts and to make them applicable to everyday life -- after all that's what engineering is all about! With this approach to tackling new ideas, they'll become easier to remember and apply in exams.

Building a rapport with my students is also incredibly important. Understanding the way in which you learn and discovering what interests you can help me plan questions and explain ideas in a more exciting way that engages you. Ultimately, this is will give our sessions a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

About my sessions

I believe that the job of a Tutor is to empathise with the student and understand what works best of them. I tailor my sessions not only to your unique specification, but also to how you best learn - for example, if you learn best through the use of diagrams and flow charts, I’ll make particular effort to use them in our sessions. Now not all of us know how best we learn and that's absolutely fine! We can try a range of visual, auditory and kinaesthetic approaches to see which is perfect for you. To begin with, we’ll nail down the theory until you're completely happy with it. If the subject matter is Physics or Economics, we may look at real life applications in an effort to make the theory more relatable and ultimately easier to remember. We will then go through some past paper questions to start developing your exam technique and reinforce the theory material we have covered. As exams draw closer, I’ll pay closer attention to focusing on past paper questions and exam technique, particularly with subjects like Economics which is particularly time pressured. If there are still any topics you are unsure of, I’ll be more than happy to cover them again.

What now?

I'd love to answer any questions you might have via the contact button at the top. You can also book in a 15 minute free meeting where I'll give you a tour of the classroom, explain how I could help you and get to know you a bit!

Questions Toby has answered

How would you factorise x^2 + 4x + 4

This is in the form ax2 + bx + cWhere, a= 1b=4c=4To factor we have to find two numbers that:Add up to b, in this case 4Multiply together to give c, in this case also 4So we deduce that the two numbers are +4 and +4 as;2 + 2 = 4, b2 x 2 = 4, c Therefore the factorised form is:(x+2)(x+2)As both the brackets are the same We can express this as (x+2)2
