About me

Having had a tutor for A-level further maths myself, I know what a difference a good tutor can make to understanding the material of your course fully, with enough confidence to be able to tackle the questions of an exam. In my opinion, confidence is key and thats what I want to be able to help people build. I want to help people achieve the grades you're capable of, and may not currently be on track to receive due to the overwhelming nature of school learning. Breaking things down enough for solely you to understand them, rather than an entire class, is my priority.

I'm currently studying Physics and the University of Bristol, and am loving the course despite how challenging it can often be. But in my opinion, the challenge is half the fun. The satisfaction of being able to finish a problem you didn't initially think you could gives a rush. I love the way numbers make things make sense, nothing beats the feeling of everything clicking into place because of an equation you've just been through.

Helping you to improve will be primarily through feedback between us. You telling me whether you're understanding things will help me see whether I need to approach things from a different angle, slow down or perhaps even push you to achieve more than you think you're capable of. I want to help you stretch and apply yourself by giving you the confidence to achieve, by building your understanding as suits you.

About my sessions

I will prepare starting the session before, by asking for any specific areas the student would want to cover. I would then go away and prepare a lesson on this. The first portion of the lesson would be focused on delivering the theory in as many different ways as necessary for the student to feel like they understand it fully. This understanding would then be tested in the second part of the lesson, through questions we would have the opportunity to work through the together. This gives me the chance to see if anything needs repeating, and often putting things into practice helps them make more sense. Exam questions are essential for preparation towards exams, and I would give exam questions at the level of the grade you want to achieve, but also some above this to stretch you and some below to test basic understanding - and this would also give me a chance to improve your exam technique. These questions would then be reviewed at the start of the next session. I would reserve some time at the end (perhaps 10 minutes) to go through any questions from school or past papers the student has been doing, general question that may have arisen from further reading or revision, or any really quick bit of theory that could be gone through based on any questions the student may have. I think this provides a more wholesome experience, as it allows you to go through things whilst fresh on your mind. We will then decide a topic for the following week to conclude the session.
