About me

Hi, I’m Hannah and I am a final year Optometry student at Cardiff University.  Let me start by saying “I’ve been there – I’ve been in your shoes!” and having gone through GCSEs, A-Levels and first year university exams, I know first-hand the stress and struggle that comes during exam seasons.  That’s why it is my goal to make your journey through what can be a daunting time, as smooth and supportive as possible.

I am available for sessions regarding specific topics, such as revision techniques; these can be one-off sessions or more regular ones to discuss how you're getting on.  My tutor sessions will be entirely based on your requests; just let me know what you would like to cover and I will do my very best to help you achieve your personal academic ambitions.

I, myself, was tutored through MyTutorWeb during my A-Levels.  I found it so helpful with furthering both my knowledge and confidence and I believe it is down to the help I received that I managed to secure my place at Cardiff University.  That is why I wish for you to have the same experience of MyTutorWeb as I did and hope I can provide the support and reassurance that you need.

I look forward to meeting with you! :)

About my sessions

Each session will be entirely based on what you wish to learn.  Whether we talk through essay plans, revision techniques or some past exam questions you have completed, everything we do will be up to you.  I will never set 'homework' (I believe you get enough of this from school) as I want these sessions to be fun and relaxed, meanwhile building your confidence academically.

Factorising and Expanding Brackets

Factorising equations:

Lets look at the example:   Factorise 3x+21

In order to factorise this equation, we need to find a common factor of both 3x and 21.  For this equation, the common factor is 3 and so this is the number that goes outside the brackets.

We then need to work out how many times 3 goes into 3x and 21.  We know that 3x ÷ 3 = x, and 21 ÷ 3 = 7.  Therefore, 3x+21 can be factorised to give 3(x+7)

Expanding brackets:

Lets look at the same example but in reverse order: Expand 3(x+7)

This is the opposite of factorising and so now we need to multiply each term inside the brackets by the number outside the brackets.

First we need to multiply 3 by x which gives us 3x.

Then we multiply 3 by 7 which gives us 21.

Our final expansion is: 3x+21
