About me

I am finishing a Masters in Physics at the University of Oxford, focusing on the application of accelerators in treating some types of cancer by proton therapy. Besides the mathematical elegance of Physics and it’s ability to reduce complex phenomena to concise, effective models, I am amazed by the range of applications this subject may have in the future regarding a better way of life for society. Besides the mathematical elegance of Physics and it’s ability to reduce complex phenomena to concise, effective models, I am amazed by the range of applications this subject may have in the future regarding a better way of life for society. This starts with the medical applications and goes further on to quantum computers, obtaining energy from fusion or to the exploration of space.

I graduated top of my year in high-school because I have always tried to get a deep understanding of all the subject I have studied and this was reflected in the results of my exams. My own experience taught me that the best way to ace exams is to have a thorough preparation which has to include a high degree of familiarisation with past papers and a complete understanding of the syllabus. The same two principles are also helpful when applying to university since they give you the optimal preparation for either tests or interviews.

What impressed me the most when applying to universities was how the people that interviewed me talked to me like I was one of their colleagues based on our common passion for Physics. Thus, I am trying to build a similar relationship with the students that I tutor, starting from our common interest and always highlighting the useful and exciting parts of the concepts that we go through.

About my sessions

Regarding tutoring style, I usually approach students with two techniques to help them develop e better understanding of a subject. Firstly, all the concepts need to be linked one to another and to possible applications or real-life examples. When introducing a new concept, the student is encouraged to understand where the concept came from and what was the motivation behind. Secondly, the best way to build a long-time understanding is to apply the newly learned concepts in practice. I encour...

I encourage students to go through past papers and exercises focused on key aspects and then discuss the difficulties or the missing pieces in solving those assignments.

Lessons start with a short summary of our past session and a review of a homework if the student had one. I make sure that all the questions are fully answered before introducing new concepts. The core of the lesson is either introducing a new chapter of the syllabus and explaining it or going thorough exercises as further practice. The end of a session consists of a short evaluation of whether the student understood what has been introduced to him and we discuss the possible work for the next meeting. The first indicator of progress is the confirmation of the student that he/she understands and enjoys the work done. I acknowledge progress with the student and give him a constant feedback of his effort as good results turn out to be one of the best motivation for the student to keep a high level of interest.
