About me

I'm currently studying Theology and Religion and I'm loving it. I'm especially interested in Philosophy and Philosophy of Religion because it's what led me to study Theology in the first place! My degree focuses on Christianity so I have a thorough understanding of the history as well as philosophical and theological issues. I find it very fascinating, and I hope that I can convey that to the student in our lessons and make it fun!

I am currently on my Year Abroad in Sweden, but last year I was President of the International Development Society and also involved in planning parties for my college at Durham. I know students often have extra curricular activities as well and that's important, so I'd like to make our tutor sessions as efficient for the student as possible by figuring out what kind of approach works best for them.

About my sessions

I hope I can help the student understand key themes and ideas in their subject. I hope I can help the student understand key themes and ideas in their subject. Talking through a concept and asking questions can really help further their own understanding and that's what I'm aiming for. I'd like to use discussion questions and interactive diagrams and texts to begin our sessions. I firmly believe that exam technique is also very important, so I'd like to structure tutor sessions around what to do in the exam, the best way to tackle a question and working on the clearest way to get your points across so that the student can show the examiner all they know in a concise way so that they're not stressed for time.

That being said, the most important thing is that the student enjoys the tutoring sessions! I can be flexible with my approach, and we can work the way that works best for the student as an individual because it'll be more efficient and enjoyable. For example, being creative really helped me learning material for my exams (and it still does) so I did lots of posters with colours and pictures. However, if the student thinks bullet points or tables will be more helpful for them, I can tailor our sessions to practice with the formats they feel more comfortable with.

Prior to any lessons I'd love to know what topics the student would like to cover so I can prepare revision notes, discussion points and diagrams.
