About me

I am studying Biomedical Engineering in Imperial College London. I chose this course because it combines my three favourite subjects - Physics, Maths and Chemistry. My interest and enthusiasm for these subjects is what makes my course so enjoyable and this is the kind of attitude that I try to impart on to my students. I am very knowledgeable in the subjects which I have chosen to tutor and I achieved a very high top grade in each of them in A-Level equivalent exams. Having sat my A-Level equivalent exams last year I know exactly what is required to get a good grade in these subjects and I understand the pressure which students are under. This understanding is what makes me stand out because I know exactly what type of support that I need to provide to my students and I can empathize with their struggles. I am extremely patient and enthusiastic and have a good attitude when it comes to teaching. My enthusiasm for these subjects is infectious and I hope that my students will also grow to love their subject. In short, I am knowledgeable, patient and always looking forward to teaching new students

About my sessions

My tutoring sessions are dynamic and I will change my technique based on what suits my individual students best. We all learn best in different ways and studying well is all about finding out what works for you. In talking with my student we will discover what works well for them and tailor the sessions accordingly. My sessions will focus on the weak points in a students chosen subject. In each sessions we will work on a previously agreed topic and I will explain the main concepts of that topic and then we will look at some problems together. I will be rigorously prepared for every sessions so that there are clear goals and no time is wasted. Tutoring can be extremely beneficial but only when it is backed up with good individual study from the student. I know this can be hard so I will work with my students on a plan so that they can solidify the information gained from our sessions. My approach to tutoring is a holistic one so I try to look at all the different factors which can improve a students grade (enthusiasm, individual study, improving weak points, etc.) and work on each of them.

Questions Callan has answered

How do I calculate the refractive index of a piece of glass

The refractive index of a medium describes how a ray of light is refracted as it passes through that medium. It is the ratio of the sine of the incident ray of light (the light entering the glass) to the sine of the refracted ray (the light leaving the glass). To calculate the refractive index we must therefore measure the angle of the incident and refracted ray with respect to the normal (will show in diagram) and use a calculator to find the sine of these two angles. finally we divide the sine of the incident ray by the sine of the refracted ray to find our answer. The refractive index of a medium describes how a ray of light is refracted as it passes through that medium.
