About me

Hi, I'm Mollie, a first year Student Children's Nurse at the University of Leeds. I absolutely love my subject, as I get to learn clinical knowledge in a classroom, as well as apply it in clinical practice on placement. My subject gives me a career for life, with each day being different, and allows me to care for and support children from birth to 18 years old and their families. I like to hope that one day I will be making a difference to families lives.

I completely understand that exams and applying to university is scary, because I was certainly very nervous! I did revise a lot as I wanted to do well, but sometimes I needed extra help from my teachers and tutors and that is normal. If there is one thing I learnt from the whole process, is that you can only try your very best! I hope that some of my techniques and coping strategies used during exams could help other children succeed and achieve their potential.

At university, I am a member of the Sign Language Society. Every week we learn a different topic of British Sign Language, expanding our vocabulary as well as meeting new people and participating in social events. I believe this skill is invaluable, an important form of communication that allows me to communicate with as many people as possible.

About my sessions

I aim to help my students improve by focusing on areas they are struggling the most. I will not give the answer to questions but explain how I got there to help students actually understand the topic, not just learn the answers for exams.

I aim to help my students improve by focusing on areas they are struggling the most. I will not give the answer to questions but explain how I got there to help students actually understand the topic, not just learn the answers for exams.

Lessons will begin with an exam question on the topic that was focused on the week before. This way, students understanding can be checked. For GCSE biology this is important, as students do not only need to be able to recall facts but also apply their knowledge to different scenarios and examples now. Lessons will be led by students telling me what they want to focus on and study, so areas they find very challenging will be covered. Content will be explained then example question and answers will be gone through.

I believe each individual has a different learning technique that works well for them. If the student does not know this, we can work together to find it, but if they know it we can use it to work in order to the best of their abilities. For instance, I found flashcards and mind-maps helped with my revision, but for friends this did not help them to understand or remember.

When I was studying for GCSEs and A-Levels, I found that completing past exam papers was the best thing to do. By answering questions and participating in self-reflective marking, you really get to know what the examiner is looking for and where exactly you are going wrong. I believe it really helps you to improve.
