Hi, my name is Kerry and i am a biology student at the University of Bristol. My field of interest is all things environmental, such as conservation, marine biology and climate change. In my spare time i love to SCUBA dive both in the UK and abroad, diving makes me so excited about biology as you get to experience first hand all the things we are trying to protect. I also love wildlife photography and oceanography.

I feel my passion for my subject will be able to help my students improve by reminding them why we have to study hard and learn the basics to be able to apply the knowledge to real life scenarios. Through my own personal experience of revision and taking exams i feel i have picked up a lot of tricks and techniques to help me remember information that i would love to pass onto my students; for example making short questions for myself, teaching the subject to my peers, mindmaps and using mnemonics.

About my sessions

My lessons will be very visual with an emphasis on diagrams, graphs and illustrations as i feel these are great ways to solidify information in the mind. After discussing with the student their style of learning, things they find difficult and their goals for their studies, i will plan each lesson to fit around this information. The structure will be roughly as follows:

2) Intended learning outcomes

3) The main bulk of the lesson including diagrams, practice questions and revision techniques

4) Question time: an opportunity for the student to highlight anything they still dont understand that we can revisit

5) Feedback: for myself to discuss with the students what they have done well on during the lesson and areas to improve as i think positive encouragement is really important when trying to learn a difficult topic.

I am a mature student that is studying an Access course at evenings and working full time. I found biology very hard and I knew I needed some extra support. Before having Kerry my assignments were not reaching passes, but having Kerry for the last 5 months has boost my confident and even my grades to merits and distinctions. I am so happy and now knowing I have got my place into uni to do nursing I am even more happier. Kerry is very quick with replying back to messages and is flexible with lessons. Thank you Kerry

Kerry has helped me for a couple of months now and I feel more confident in my work because of her. She is very flexible which works perfect for me as I am working full time and attending evening classes at college.
