About me

As a Psychological & Behavioural Science student at Cambridge University, I understand the sometimes overwhelming pressure of exams and school. 13 GCSEs and 4 A-levels later, I have moved on to uni. The hard work that you endure during the exam period is worth it when you achieve your goals. PBS involves lots of psychology, biology and statistics. Having such a passion for my subject has inspired me to want to tutor others in these subjects. University involves more than just your subject...

The hard work that you endure during the exam period is worth it when you achieve your goals. PBS involves lots of psychology, biology and statistics. Having such a passion for my subject has inspired me to want to tutor others in these subjects. University involves more than just your subject - I'm part of the Cambridge athletics club, which involves training 3 times a week and plenty of socials! It's lots of fun and helps to reduce the pressures of deadlines. After a long history of tutoring, I've developed teaching methods that are effective for students - methods that helped me to get where I am. I often struggled to grasp the complex theories of my subjects so had to evolve multiple strategies to understand and retain the information. Sharing these with my students will be effective. I like to incorporate incentives and fun types of learning into my lessons. I think Q and A sessions are useful for revision and verbalising the concepts helps students to remember them. It's important to tailor each lesson to the needs of the individual. I've used a range of techniques to learn and revise for my own exams and am open to using whichever method works best for individual. This is why I would be a good tutor!

About my sessions

I like to provide notes on the topic that will be covered in that lesson to give the student an overview of all of the main concepts. This will include definitions and step-by-step explanations to give the student the crucial knowledge that they require. I will use resources from online and revision websites, as well as my own revision notes, as I used a number of resources to make these at the time of my exams and they helped me to achieve academic success in sufficient detail with accuracy....

I will use resources from online and revision websites, as well as my own revision notes, as I used a number of resources to make these at the time of my exams and they helped me to achieve academic success in sufficient detail with accuracy. At the start of every lesson (except for the first lesson) I like to use a small 'quiz' - nothing formal or daunting, but something to monitor how much the student has remembered from the lesson before, so that I can see whether the teaching methods I am using for them are effective in helping them to retain information. I like to take a friendly approach to make the student feel more comfortable with raising their ideas to me - if they're confident, I find they're more likely to take creative risks with their answers and 'think outside of the box'. I like to use anecdotes and refer to my own experiences to help the student accept that it's normal to feel overwhelmed and face challenges during your education, and that you can overcome these!

I found Alex lessons really useful, as my lessons were just focused on practising exam questions and outline my answers in areas I struggle the most. Alex would also give me practise questions to do at home which she would mark. Her explanations when discussing a topic or study has also been very easy to understand and clear.
