About me

Hi! My name is Becca and I'm a first year chemical engineering student at the University of Birmingham. I love my degree course because it is the perfect mix of maths and chemistry, which were the two subjects I enjoyed most and did the best in at school.

I'm a relatively organised person so I started revision fairly early during my GCSEs and A-Levels, which I believe is the key to minimising stress levels during exam periods. I used a range of different revision techniques, inc...

I'm a relatively organised person so I started revision fairly early during my GCSEs and A-Levels, which I believe is the key to minimising stress levels during exam periods. I used a range of different revision techniques, including websites which were very useful and easy to use, as well as flashcards and mind-maps. With this experience I aim to help you find revision/learning techniques that work best for you, as well as making the most of our sessions!

On a personal note, I'm very outgoing and sporty! I'm a keen horse rider and have played netball up to regional level, as well as learning a new sport (korfball!) at university, for which I am now the development squad captain.

About my sessions

From my personal study experience, as well as helping peers, the best way to absorb new information is to ensure there is a strong foundation by understanding the fundamentals of the topic, then consolidating this by doing past paper questions on a regular basis. This style of learning helps you to understand what your particular exam board is going to be awarding marks for and helps to prepare you for the actual exam. My style is very informal and friendly, initially having a conversation with my student about the main areas they feel need improvement and setting goals to try and reach throughout our sessions so that we have a clear plan to fix any issues. I also encourage question asking, as well as me asking questions in return, as being able to explain a topic leads to a much deeper understanding.

I will set past paper questions for you in order to measure progress, seeing how you perform and marking them to give you feedback for improvement. The best way to learn is from mistakes, so the more practice you get the better you will become. Don't hesitate to get in touch with anything that you're struggling with!
