I am a first year English Literature student at The University of Sheffield. I have a true passion for English and hope its unique versatility helps students grow to love it too.I have a plethora of experience in terms of mentoring which I feel I can pass onto students to help them grow! In year 13, I was part of a study group which helped lower years grow in confidence with their literacy skills. I was assigned a student in year seven, who struggled with reading and pronunciation. By the end of the year, he was much more confident and it was so rewarding to see the progress he had made, and that he was much happier with the subject. Last summer, I helped create a campaign to prevent language barriers in inner city Birmingham from becoming a problem in terms of children’s summer play time. With help from the charity “Park Lives”, were able to break down obstacles that prevented children from playing in the park, such as a lack of basic literacy skills from the children’s parents, or the circumstance of English not being a child’s first language, as they were unable to register within the charity. It was amazing to find the techniques that helped their skills and watch them flourish. Although the experiences were very different, it inspired me to pass on my love for English and help people along the way. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions, I would love to answer them for you!

My online lessons will be is individually customised to help meet the specific needs of the student. I will strive to make the session as engaging and interesting as possible. I think it’s important to remember that I am not a teacher and the student doesn’t have to worry about being perfectly accurate all of the time, it is completely okay to ask questions, practise or even go over something ten times if necessary and helpful. I understand that because English is a core subject, it can be daunting to someone who doesn’t  enjoy the subject or the content. Something I told myself during exams, University applications and school in general is that everyone struggles and even as an avid lover of the subject, I found some parts of the course rather scary.  I wish to not only be a tutor to help through studies, but also a caring guide who is happy to answer questions, help with worries and support the student through their school experience.I will help students achieve their goals by listening to them and approaching their unique learning style in an upbeat and approachable manner. I think that the best way of learning can often be somewhat formulaic, whereby we both set achievable goals that are integrated into their school routine and measured by weekly, bi weekly or monthly questions, short essays or ‘assignments’ that I will be able to give feedback for.

Amelia is brilliant, ...I could end there as that says everything that you would need to know,... however - she plans for every lesson and forwards documentation ahead of time which is really useful and enables the student to get the very best out of each lesson. She builds a learning partnership with the student that so often teachers and us parents don't get right. She is super-kind and supportive in every way and though young herself she has a really mature way with her that enables her to be close to the student level when needed and removed when that is better. All round she was perfect for our son who went from a 1 in mock to a 6 final grade,... and has spent the rest of the summer smiling to himself. We cant thank her enough :)
