About me

Currently studying Psychology at Warwick University, I have a fascination in behavioural choices, root causes and reflecting on "why?". Currently studying Psychology at Warwick University, I have a fascination in behavioural choices, root causes and reflecting on "why?". As human beings, we are always thinking, planning and shaping our personalities, whether consciously or subconsciously, forming major aspects of our development. Learning itself, is a developmental process of mind shaping, personality making and knowledge obtaining; therefore it follows that learning to me is a psychological process that if done with consideration and care, can be effective and successful - leading to well-deserved results.

Religious Education alongside Philosophy and Ethics has formed a substantial aspect of my thoughts as it is not only a field of knowledge, however a way of life and consideration of morality. It is one of few subjects that not only teach subject material, however transferable life skills due to critical analysis and recognising multiple perspectives - skills that are crucial within modern society and that I have thoroughly enjoyed developing and obtaining.

Therefore, within my sessions, students will learn the knowledge needed for their exams covering all important topics, whilst further engaging with these topics in depth due to the passion I aim to transfer, harmonising with the definition of learning highlighted above ... that learning is development.

About my sessions

Typical lesson structure is threefold:

1) Material- Content needed for exams and sufficient detailed notes will be taught. Visual aids are often used including mind-maps, diagrams and acronyms as this has proven to be highly effective in memorising and embedding material; the student uses less capacity, only actively remembering a single word to trigger material.

This can be particularly useful as there is often a considerable amount of content. Techniques of how to embed knowledge learnt will further be adopted based on individual learning styles, adapting my teaching style to this.

2) Thoughts- To create engagement, a portion of the session will be dedicated to thoughts. Typical discussion will be "do you agree with this theory?" "could you improve it?" to engage with the evaluation aspect so that within exams, notes are not just regurgitation, rather a critical, insightful argument answering the question that examiners look for.

3) Assessment - A few questions will be set at the end to check for understanding, correcting any misunderstandings. They will be marked to assess progress; improvements will be given and I will then look for whether students consider improvements in the next session to enhance skills and advance their exam technique. Questions can always be asked! The best sessions will be a discussion between academics, not always a teacher-student scenario!
