Hi there!

My name is Mina and I am studying Psychology at Bath. Fresh out of the university application process, I understand very well how demanding and stressful achieving your desired grades can be. The aim of my lessons is, not only for you to achieve in your subject, but to nurture your passion for it.

Some of my passions:

1) Scientific research. Next year I will be working at Yale University as a research assistant in the social cognitive development lab but what sparked my curiosity was my EPQ on the Psychology of Bilingualism. Through this, I was able to delve into the complex and dynamic world of research. I experienced how fascinating it was to possibly discover a truth about the world through my own studies and am now working with leading researchers at university as well as being funded to do my own research.

2) Languages! I can speak Turkish and French. My passion developed during my school summers when I stayed in France alone and experienced how rewarding it was to learn how to communicate with people of a different culture. I did an early GCSE and A-Level in French.

3) Solving problems. I think Maths is a fundamental life skill and can be really enjoyable if you see each problem as a challenge. I achieved an A* in Maths GCSE and 91% overall for A-Level.

About my sessions

I have a student-centred approach as I know from experience that thinking critically about questions and trying to derive my own answers to them is a much more effective and engaging way to learn than being spoon-fed information.

I have a student-centred approach as I know from experience that thinking critically about questions and trying to derive my own answers to them is a much more effective and engaging way to learn than being spoon-fed information.

Of course I will do my upmost best to cater the lessons in accordance to each student’s needs and aims. We will be in constant communication and establish concrete time-bound goals to make sure no time is wasted. Through my lessons, I try to nurture a ‘deep learning’ mindset, that is, they learn to understand the reality around them (rather than solely to memorise or pass an exam) as this sparks curiosity and motivation. I will do this by starting every lesson with a stimulating activity, video or question and ending each session with a consolidation of learning by getting the student to verbalise what they have taken from the session.

The lessons will be as interactive as possible: if the student is struggling with a maths topic, for example, we will work through problems together, while deriving the reasons for why each step is taken in the method. By doing this, the student will fully understand what is going on and the methods will stick better in their mind. Or if the student would like help speaking French for their oral exam, I will use fun and engaging conversation exercises to help build their fluency and confidence, instead of memorising sentences. This way I hope lessons to be engaging, productive and fun!
