About me

I am a second year university student and I am absolutely loving my chemical engineering course. I made it via hard work and quality revision- and it was totally worth it.

Since school, I have cycled competitively nationally and internationally, meaning a very busy training and work schedule, so I fully understand what is required to maximise every bit of time there is. Since school, I have cycled competitively nationally and internationally, meaning a very busy training and work schedule, so I fully understand what is required to maximise every bit of time there is. I found typical school 'revision techniques' didn't work for me, and believe every person learns differently. I am hoping I can help students realise their best way to learn as I am a very adaptable person and can look at things from different points of view.

At maths A-level I hated my teacher and could not cope with his style of teaching, and so ended up getting a tutor. I therefore know first hand how beneficial a tutor can be, and understand what is needed from a tutor to help a student to achieve their grades. Because of my tutor maths ended up being my favourite subject and my highest grade. I believe that I can have the same effect on students I tutor as I am a very positive, motivated and enthusiastic person.

About my sessions

To prepare for any student I tutor, I will first try and determine the main weakness they have in an area and what grade they would love to hit overall. I will take a students personal requirements into consideration: I am aware some students just need re-caps and further revision, whereas others may require full teaching of certain topics. Whatever is needed, it will always revolve around a students exam board and specification (unless a student is specifically requesting to learn more for a...

To prepare for any student I tutor, I will first try and determine the main weakness they have in an area and what grade they would love to hit overall. I will take a students personal requirements into consideration: I am aware some students just need re-caps and further revision, whereas others may require full teaching of certain topics. Whatever is needed, it will always revolve around a students exam board and specification (unless a student is specifically requesting to learn more for a deeper understanding, or just for fun!). At the end of a session, I will ask what the student would like to cover in the next session so I can then go away and come back with a vague session plan for next time. However, I am not intending to do it like a structured lesson! It will be informal and I am more than happy to see where a session goes- there is no need to stick to a plan set in stone if it turns out to be less beneficial. I will either set a student some questions to consolidate a topic, or they can come to me with questions they have tried and want explaining/ going over. I believe it is important to do some form of work between sessions to highlight understanding (or any lack of understanding).

Ultimately, there is no set way I will run every single session- adapting to an individuals way of learning and their targets is essential to me.

My daughter has only had 5 lessons with Alana Rose and already her understanding has changed. I can only put this down to Alana Rose's teaching of the subject From someone that used to dread Maths she looks forward to her lesson and her confidence is growing all the time. Thank you so much. Looking forward to more lessons!
