I am a Music student at Durham University in my final year. I have always had a love of music and hope my tutorials will be helpful and enjoyable so you can love Music too!
My Dissertation is heavily focused on how the media adds to the meaning of music, so I am consistently analysing media texts and developing my skills I learnt in my Media Studies A-Level.
My course consists of lots of essay writing so my English grammar skills have to be second to none and I hope I can share some good tips with you to help you!
I also offer help with personal statements. I have worked in Admissions at my university and have attended several courses on how to write a good personal statement. I would be happy to pass on some tips and advice on what you could include and how to structure your writing.
I am very patient and friendly! I enjoy helping students with their revision and give advice on how you can improve your work. I also work on residentials as a Student Ambassador, which has been really good experience and increased my love of young people to inspire them and help them reach their goals - I hope I can do this for you too!
During the sessions, you can decide what you want to cover. If you need some help understanding key terms and theory we can focus on that or if you need some advice on a particular text, piece or media you are covering, we can talk about that. I will give you the best advice I can to help your understanding!
I will use different methods during the session (discussion, explanation, analysis) so we can find out which way is best for you to understand the key concepts. I hope that through our sessions you will become confident enough to explain things back to me, or your parents or even your dog!
I aim to make the sessions fun! I hope that in each session we can do some interesting tasks to help you understand things you might have been finding difficult at school or in your revision. If you didn't enjoy it before, I hope you will by the end of our first session!
I'd like to book a session, what do I do?
If you have any questions, send me a 'WebMail' or book a 'Meet the Tutor Session' so we can meet and I'll answer your questions for you.
When booking a session, please remember to tell me which exam board you are studying with, which subject, and what you would like help with.
I look forward to meeting you!

Some of the listening questions can be tricky! The best thing to do is to practice at home. Find a playlist of classical music on spotify or youtube and put it on shuffle. Then try and write down as much as you can identify on paper during 1 minute of each piece. Once you have practiced this for while, reduce the time to 30 seconds, then 20 seconds then 10 seconds. If you can still identify at least 3 things in each piece in 10 seconds, you're on the right track!see more
Cross-media refers to large media texts which are present on different media platforms simultaneously. The mix of each of these media forms contributed to the overall media text. For example, BBC News is a cross-media broadcaster as they have a TV channel, online website and social media which all work together to create BBC News.see more
