About me

Hello, I'm Alex. I achieved A*AB in my a-levels (Sociology, Philosophy and Economics) and I am currently at the University of Manchester, studying Philosophy. My degree is classified as a 'BASS' degree unique to manchester, where I study modules in philosophy, politics, law, economics, criminology, anthropology and sociology. I chose to specialise in philosophy due to the fact it was a very interesting and engaging subject at a-level, which made me think about things I had not thought about before until studying the subject. Furthermore within topics such as ethics, studying relevant ideas such as environmental ethics and health ethics.

I have a lot of experience of doing well in exams, from achieving 10 GCSEs A*-C and 3 A-levels. I am a person who is not naturally good at exams, and has to put significant effort into achieving high grades, therefore, I make a good tutor as I can understand what it is like to not be excelling in a subject naturally and have developed techniques to find a way to achieve big.

At university I have joined three societies; swimming, skiing and debating. I although I enjoy the social side of skiing, debating has been particularly beneficial for my studies - developing my language and how to create a well formed argument, both in my verbal and written language.

I hope this has given you an insight to me, and look forward to getting to work with some of you.

About my sessions

Prior to beginning the lesson, I will need to know what topic the student would to cover. I can prepare prior to the lesson to deliver the best lesson possible. When the student informs me on the topic, I will read over the relevant notes for the topic - which I will provide to the student once the lesson begins so that we can be looking at and working from the same text.

I will ask the student if there are any bits within the topic that they find particularly difficult to understand, if so we can focus on this in more detail when going over the topic. If not, I can explain the topic to the student and highlight the

important features to the student. Once finished going over the topic, we will make an essay plan in the last 20 minutes. We will look at the question together, & I will ask if there is anything that they think would be particularly important in regards to this question. We will discuss these ideas & go from there. If the student feels as if they do not feel confident enough to cover an exam question & would like to continue going over material this is fine, I can provide the question for them to look at themselves, & we could quickly discuss this at the beginning of the next lesson. I have perfect notes for each topic in Philosophy and Ethics GCSE/A-level material, as well as Sociology GCSE/A-level material.
