About me

I’m a first year Law with Social Sciences undergrad at the University of Warwick. I’m a first year Law with Social Sciences undergrad at the University of Warwick. With developed interests in the social sciences concerning disciplines such as international development and the Geopolitical sphere. I have always found the concept of exams as stressful. Simply because of the unpredictable nature of them, despite actively engaging in my class I would often doubt my abilities. After years of exams and studying I have grown to find that examinations and tests are not as unpredictable as we think. Exam boards and schools have a curriculum to follow, I learnt through the right techniques and effective preparation success is only one thought away.

I love Sociology simply because it has reconfigured my perception of society, reinforcing the notion that the world we live in is not as black and white as it seems. It broadens my mind and ability to engage in knowledgeable discussions about society from various perspectives in relation to intersection viewpoints of class, race and gender.

The power of Literature to enclose the reader in a scope of distant yet uncanny reality is amazing. At school some of my peers turned away from the subject because factors such as language barriers when reading older texts. I would like to help individuals shy away from that mindset and move towards not only understanding the work of older texts but appreciating and valuing the meaning behind it.

About my sessions

My lessons will be structured around the needs and requirements of the students depending on the topic areas they would like to focus on. Such as, content teaching, exam style preparation, assessment objectives and skills, exam style language etc. For example, for A level Sociology if the topic ‘Globalisation’ in relation to crime was raised as an area of concern. I would diffuse the theory and arguments behind the area via detailed explanations. Then assess their understanding of the subject...

Then assess their understanding of the subject area by asking them to feed the information back to me in a suitable format, e.g.an exam question on the topic.

Every student is different, which means their strengths and weaknesses will be. To help them achieve their goals I will firstly ask them what their aims are. I will then deconstruct these goals and prioritise them in an orderly fashion and we’ll tackle them systematically. This serves to create a rewarding experience for the students on a regular basis when they achieve these goals.

I plan to measure success on a rolling basis. One way is by helping students achieve their academic goals in their areas of weakness. I will keep notes about the course of the sessions and a record of the students’ progress and areas required for improvement. This will enable me to track improvements. Positive feedback is a pivotal aspect of tutoring because it allows them to recognise their capabilities whilst providing them with the confidence needed to aim for higher goals.
