About me

Hi, I'm Sophie! I'm a second year PhD student in Philosophy at McGill University (Canada). Prior to that I studied at the University of Cambridge (MPhil) and University College London (BSc).

My A-levels were in Physics, Mathematics and Philosophy. I originally wanted to be an astronomer but fell in love with philosophy (I achieved 100% on my first Philosophy exam -- I was as surprised as anyone would be!). This led me into Philosophy of Science, which has been the focus...

My A-levels were in Physics, Mathematics and Philosophy. I originally wanted to be an astronomer but fell in love with philosophy (I achieved 100% on my first Philosophy exam -- I was as surprised as anyone would be!). This led me into Philosophy of Science, which has been the focus of my research ever since.

Before embarking on the PhD, I spent two years tutoring for a charity, helping students with Philosophy, English Language and Literature, and writing personal statements for university.

I'm very much looking forward to working with you!

About my sessions

Philosophy is a subject that requires one to grapple with difficult arguments and concepts, and be able to think clearly. As such, my preference is for tutee-led discussions as these ensure that the tutee understands tricky concepts.

That said, every session is tailored to individual needs. All I need is to know in advance whether you require a structured lesson on a particular topic (please give me at least 3 days notice if this is the case).

I will always relate whatever we've covered in the lesson to other parts of the syllabus, and hopefully enthuse you enough to read some philosophy yourself! I think this is a good method for increasing your confidence with the subject, and realising your potential!
