About me

Hi there! I'm Roshan and I am a first-year (well heading into second year) student at the University of Warwick studying Mathematics with Statistics. Yes, it's super challenging but pursuing mathematics at university has enabled me to see how beautiful the subject is! It's changed the way I think and made me understand the fundamental theorems underlying processes that were so natural at A-level.

During my time at 6th form, I voluntarily tutored mathematics at a local school and this is where I discovered my love for teaching! Through strengthening a students understanding of the material combined with some problem solving, I plan to guide my students to their academic goals as well as becoming better mathematicians/physicists, transferring skills I learned on my successful journey through A-levels.

When I'm not at my desk, you'd probably find me playing basketball, watching the office (American of course) or at my university's astronomy talks.

About my sessions

I plan to structure my lessons around a quote from one of my professors, that being "Mathematics is not a spectator sport"

Each lesson will begin with a brief conversation following up on the topics the student has requested, assuring we are both clear on what is needed to be achieved from the lesson. Following this would be a topic review, where I would walk through the requested content providing an opportunity for the student to check their understanding and foundations. Once I and the student are satisfied, the rest of the lesson will have a strong emphasis on problem-solving, enabling students to feel confident with the material learned. Together we will work through some questions I've selected from textbooks, different exam boards (because math is still math regardless of the exam board) and some self-written questions. Throughout this, I'll be explaining my thought process and identifying key exam techniques such as time management and speed. Towards the end of the lesson, the student will then be asked to work through some problems on their own. Here I'll be able to analyze their thought process and exam technique.

My son had his first maths lesson with Roshan today and he has asked if he can continue having maths lessons from Roshan as my son states he found him really helpful . Considering my son has been very reluctant for a tutor! 😀
