About me

I´m Cristina, a second year student at Durham University, where I read History and French. I´m originally from Austria, which means that my first language is German, yet I am also fluent in English and French, and I am learning Spanish and currently Russian due to my interest in these languages and the cultures that come with them. I´m Cristina, a second year student at Durham University, where I read History and French. I´m originally from Austria, which means that my first language is German, yet I am also fluent in English and French, and I am learning Spanish and currently Russian due to my interest in these languages and the cultures that come with them. Languages and history are inextricably interlinked and complement each other immensely as subjects, which was my main reason for deciding to study these subjects in combination. Of course I also value the more social side of university life and am involved in societies such as French Society, Russian Speaking Society and HistorySoc – where I can explore my interests in a more relaxed way – and being part of university dance groups. Going beyond my own process of learning and helping others to learn and study more effectively and successfully has been a constant in my life, as I started tutoring younger students in secondary school and continued to help in learning support in sixth form. Unofficially too, I have always been the person my friends would go to for help if they struggled with homework or even their UCAS applications, which has broadened my experience considerably. In addition, I know of course from personal experience the stress that school exams and university applications can cause, yet I am confident that I can help my students overcome these difficulties!

About my sessions

I am aiming to improve my students´ learning and grades with a very individualised approach to their academic difficulties, which will range from tips for general organisation and efficiency to guidance in improving their writing style for essays to grammar and pronunciation corrections. Depending on the subject and the difficulties the students experience with it, I will also provide them with additional resources and recommendations to further their knowledge and learning process as well as...

I am aiming to improve my students´ learning and grades with a very individualised approach to their academic difficulties, which will range from tips for general organisation and efficiency to guidance in improving their writing style for essays to grammar and pronunciation corrections. Depending on the subject and the difficulties the students experience with it, I will also provide them with additional resources and recommendations to further their knowledge and learning process as well as their strengths.

As I am well aware of the struggles of oral exams in languages for instance, I will also be offering speaking practice and conversation to prepare students for this vital part of learning a language. Whether you need to practice a presentation on a specific topic or are just looking to improve your dialogue skills, I can help you!

As for personal statements, having been through the admittedly somewhat daunting process of a UCAS application, I know what it feels like when you are told to come up with 4000 characters that are rather decisive for your future. I can offer you guidance and an individualised approach to constructing your personal statement (not necessarily limited to humanities subjects and including Oxbridge) and do my best to help you make your application stand out.
