About me

Hello there!!! Firstly, thanks for visiting my profile. My name is Kadambari and I am a Chemistry (MSci) graduate from the University of Nottingham. I have always loved cooking, so I was a member of the Baking Society at my university and I also volunteered as a Student Ambassador for the School of Chemistry. As for my other grades, I achieved 8 A*s and 3 As during my GCSEs and 2 As and 2 Bs during my A-levels.

The truth is I had never planned to study Chemistry at university. It was only during my A-levels, when I had the most supportive Chemistry teachers who believed in me that I truly started enjoying the subject. I have a first-hand experience of the confidence that a good teacher can instil in you and I hope to do the same for you. Being the first one in my family to go to university, I was mostly clueless and did not know who to turn to for guidance. However, now that I have experienced all 4 years of university, I would like to help people like you achieve their best grades and realise their fullest potential.

About my sessions

I know from experience that exams can be extremely daunting, especially when you think your future is on the line. However, the best way to overcome exam anxiety is to be prepared. You can never be too prepared, which is why practising as many past papers as you can under exam conditions is one of the best ways to combat your fears.

However, this does not mean that you are going to regurgitate the syllabus just to tick off a checklist in the mark scheme. My main goal during the initial consultation is to find out what topics you are most and least comfortable with, which will be followed by addressing the topics that need greater attention. I want you to be fully engaged with the syllabus because core understanding is the best way to performing well in the sciences. Further reading to support your understanding is always encouraged and if that is not your cup of tea, there are always great educational video content that you could access on the internet.

I look forward to seeing you!

Questions Kadambari has answered

What is Ionisation Energy and the three factors that affect it? 2)State and explain the general trend in first ionisation energies for the Period 3 elements.

1) Ionisation energy is the energy required to remove 1 mole of electrons from each atom in 1 mole of gaseous atoms to form 1 mole of gaseous ions. For example,O(g)→ O+(g)+ e-The three factors that affect ionisation energy are the size of the positive nuclear charge, the size of the atom i.e. distance of outermost electron from the nucleus and screening (shielding) effect of inner shell electrons.2) The period 3 elements (Aluminium to Argon) show a general trend in the increase of first ionisation energy. This is because all the electrons that are being removed are in the same level and are being shielded by the 1s22s22p6 electrons. The major difference is the increasing number of protons in the nucleus as you move from Aluminium to Argon. This causes greater attraction between the nucleus and the outermost electron, thus increasing the ionisation energy. The increasing nuclear charge also pulls the outermost electrons closer to the nucleus, causing an even greater attraction.1) Ionisation energy is the energy required to remove 1 mole of electrons from each atom in 1 mole of gaseous atoms to form 1 mole of gaseous ions.
