I believe there is something really special about immersing yourself into another language and culture. Whilst mastering it takes patience and dedication, being able to communicate with people from other parts of the world is an exceptional skill to have.

Through my exams I realised the value of academic self belief. Be proud of the knowledge you have gained and then you can pin point the gaps!

Alongside the language learning, I enjoy discovering more about the diverse histories and cultures of Spanish speaking countries. During my A levels, I did a range of research projects spanning from the Colonisation of the Americas to Catalonia’s fight for independence. I’m also interested in international affairs, and often write political pieces for the Bristol University Italian magazine. I also get involved in Bristol’s filmmaking society and have assistant directed a few short films over my first year.

I really believe that in an increasingly divided world, learning languages is now more important than ever in bridging the gap between cultures. I am very excited to start these Spanish sessions and look forward to getting to know my students.

About my sessions

Firstly, having a clear understanding of the student's course specification and requirements is really important. Every language board and paper is different and therefore it is vital that the student knows exactly what the examiners are looking for in order to tick those boxes.

Firstly, having a clear understanding of the student's course specification and requirements is really important. Every language board and paper is different and therefore it is vital that the student knows exactly what the examiners are looking for in order to tick those boxes.

However, students should also think for themselves and show flair and independence in their work, by ensuring a deep-rooted knowledge of the vocabulary, grammar or whatever the focus might be. When it comes to grammar tutorials, explanations and essay techniques etc., I like to tutor with a clear structure to categorise information in a way that the student will take in easily.

I have a strong belief in transparent communication with the student. If I understand truthfully what area they feel least confident in or whether they would prefer a different method of tutoring, I can help the student prepare for their exams on a much more meaningful level and tailor my sessions according to their specific needs. I will also prepare my lessons using resources like past papers, practice questions, Spanish-speaking role play and a variety of vocabulary exercises, as these will be key in determining the student's progress from session to session.

Language learning takes patience and persistence, so I am determined to see the student through their exam preparation and excited to see their confidence increase along with their Spanish skills.
