About me

Ever since my first lesson, I knew instantly that I would love sociology. I love being able to challenge assumptions and sociology allows this by deconstructing so many aspects of life that we would ordinarily accept at face value. By studying Law and Sociology at degree level I am able to explore phenomena and problems in contemporary society whilst gaining critical awareness of the role that the law plays in modern. Additionally, I play basketball for the University. I have been playing since I was in year 6. I am also involved in a lot of different societies including the Law society, Careers society and Afro-Caribbean society.

In the beginning of my A-Level studies although I was averaging at a grade D and grew increasingly frustrated that despite how much I loved sociology, it wasn’t being reflected in my grades. It wasn’t until I went back to ask my teacher where I was going wrong and he took the time to break it down for me that I began to improve. From then on I would submit extra essays to be marked and would constantly ask for feedback, this resulted in me finishing my A-Levels with an A*. This is the kind of impact I would like to have as a tutor. It would be very rewarding feeling to be able to watch a student grow.

I aim to help my students improve by giving learning experience specifically tailored to them, an approach that isn’t often available in classroom settings. During exam season I would do practice essays for different types of questions however, everyone learns and remembers things in different ways so I will adapt my teaching methods and notes to suit the students learning style. I will provide revision materials tailored to the way the students learn best whether it is through revision tables, posters, essays or short and concise notes. As part of my job I will check schoolwork if needed, offer constructive criticism and remedy any student misunderstandings. Another way that I will help my students improve is by constantly reviewing the specification to ensure that the most difficult areas are covered. I aim to give challenges to stretch the students and push them to be able to achieve higher. Finally, I will set regular practice tests where I can track progress through the students test results.
