About me

I loved both history and geography while at school and have studied them both at a-level and through to university. While I love both these subjects and struggle to choose my favourite, I have gone on to complete a masters in geography and have a place to start my teacher training in September.

I have a love for more modern history, particularly the events of the 20th century. However I have studied all types of history, from slavery, the colonial period and early modern monarchy within Britain. In geography I favour the human side, particularly urban regeneration (which was the topic of my masters dissertation which i received 87% for). Nevertheless I have studied they key aspects of physical geography, including tectonics, weather and climate and coasts.

A love for both history and geography has encouraged me to go beyond the classroom and curriculum to develop my subject knowledge. I have a love for books, films, plays and documentaries that revolve around my subject areas, as they are able bring the topic area to life. I also enjoy traveling to places of geographical or historical significance, enabling me to see first hand the implications of significant historic or geographic events and how they affect both people and the planet.

I tailor and delivering fun lesson that meet the needs of the pupil. I like to get to know my students so together we are able to find the best methods to help them learn. As well as getting to know my students to help in lesson design, I also like to spend time learning their strengths and weakness. Talking about the topics they struggle with, while also giving small written assignments to assess the level they're currently working at.

I incorporate a range of different methods where possible to keep my lessons engaging. I use film clips as a fun introduction to topics. For both history and geography I use visual teaching, such as diagrams, pictures and maps. Opening up the subject, making it more accessible and enjoyable.

At the start of each session I spend 5 minutes reviewing the previous session, ensuring that it is not forgotten and to show the link between session. I also like to end the session by getting my pupil to sum up what they have learnt as to identify any possible gaps that may need revisiting.

Finally, I like to spend time working on essay style question as they are common on exam papers. I ensure that my pupils not only know the content but know how to confidently answer an essay style question. Therefore I spend time helping them identify what certain questions are asking for, and how to structure their answers. Taking them away from writing everything they know an a topic.
