About me

Hi, I'm Cameron and I'm moving into my second year of study at Oxford University. I'm a mathematics student at St. Edmund Hall college and I'm valuing the experience of reading University level mathematics. I've always been fascinated by numbers and difficult problems, and now I'm surrounded by them constantly, it really is a wish granted for me!

I'm a mathematics student at St. Edmund Hall college and I'm valuing the experience of reading University level mathematics. I've always been fascinated by numbers and difficult problems, and now I'm surrounded by them constantly, it really is a wish granted for me!

Maths was always my interest and strong point within school, and I have solid foundations in GCSE, A-level and University entrance exam papers. I'm also happy to share my knowledge of Physics with you, as I also hold large interest in this field and really enjoy seeing the applications of mathematics in the real world.

In Oxford, I'm lucky enough to have two truly amazing tutors in mathematics, one of which was an International Maths Olympiad gold medalist and Trinity Cambridge undergraduate. My other tutor forces me to think incredibly critically and from both of them I gain many useful tricks and thinking tips to add to my mathematical toolbox! These, combined with my experience of 1-1 in person tutoring during Upper Sixth, will set me stone to bring to you the best I can on My Tutor.

About my sessions

My teaching style will depend on what the student wishes to gain from the sessions, and in particular what sort of examination they're preparing for. In any case, I will be patient and allow them to think for themselves, I believe this is the key aspect of learning as ultimately in an exam situation it boils down to whether a student is able to think creatively and apply existing knowledge to perhaps unfamiliar situations. My main goal is to make sure that you understand thoroughly the underlying concepts of the question we're attempting to answer, and look beyond and around it to test whether you would have been prepared had a slightly different/more difficult variant the problem been asked.

In Oxford, our tutoring sessions tend to be 2-1 or occasionally 1-1, and from the students' point of view I've managed to realise exactly what sort of teaching style resonates with me and my tutorial partners. I truly believe that one remembers something far better after working it out for themselves, (as a pose to having the answer handed to them,) as after spending time and energy on a problem, when the solution finally becomes clear it seems to really stick in your brain for much longer. Contrarily, if the answer is just given and I didn't have to think about it, I will likely have forgotten about it soon after.
