My name is Lucy, and I'm a second year Law student at the University of Exeter. Having studied History, Sociology, English Literature and Philosophy at A Level, I chose to study law to channel those academic subjects into something new and exciting, that wold lead me into a great career. I have always been very driven by the concepts of real world justice and how the system applies to us, and have used my education as a pathway to a position where one day I can be involved in those processes. Growing up, I went to a private school for primary, grammar for secondary, and then state school for sixth form, so as a tutor, I can use my experience with different types of schools to help relate to the student.I was never one of the kids at school who could sail through every exam with minimal effort, so I appreciate the value of perseverance and hard work. At school, I had various positions of responsibility, where I began to pass on these values to younger students students, and through tutoring I aspire to carry on doing the same. Regardless of the hard work needed, University was always the next step for me, I was very driven and am now studying a great degree at one of the best Universities in the country, and I would jump at the opportunity to give another student the help they need to take their next step in their education. I aim to help my students improve by giving tailored academic support whilst maintaining an enthusiastic, encouraging and motivating presence.

About my sessions

In my sessions I will endeavour to boost my student's academic ability and confidence through a careful, but not critical approach. I believe that each student knows best what they need, and I will work carefully to tailor each session to the academic needs which present themselves, building up a rapport with the student and getting to know the areas which need the most help. I will use this communication with the student in order to plan my sessions accordingly. In my sessions I will also...

In my sessions I will also make sure to deliver my teaching in a way that works with the student's school and teachers. For example, I think it is really important to go over work that has been marked by a teacher, and methodically go through it with the student so that they really understand what to do next time, whatever that may be! Whilst working with material that the student is learning at school, I will also plan my sessions to add a little bit extra to the content, things that I feel could really up their grade. Especially with subjects like English and Sociology, a bit of extra knowledge that shows a deeper understanding can really go a long way with the examiner, and even make the subject more interesting to the student. I think that everyone who has been a student in their life needs some encouragement, and from personal experience, I know I learn much better when I am enjoying the process and am interested in the content, and I hope to help my students learn and achieve in that positive way.
