About me

What makes me stand out? I am a second-year student of International Business Management at Bristol University, with valuable work experience in the teaching field: in 2016 I was a teaching assistant and tutor for students with learning disabilities and of all age groups in Maxwell School (Madrid). The school provides a dynamic, stimulating environment enabling them to transport this learning to other aspects of their lives. Through these tutoring and counseling positions, I have learned how to best teach each age group. For example, I created songs to teach the younger students the times tables, but I gave IGCSE's students quizzes to help her prepare for their exams. This experience has helped me appreciate the value not only of a good education and a willingness to learn, but of being organized and practical, proactive and flexible, extroverted and positive. The possibility of communicating in different languages – I am bilingual in Spanish / English, fluent in French and have started studying Italian – were very useful to me, as were my adaptability and capacity to work in a team.

I am passionate about helping students improve in all academic subjects. I still remember my excitement when my IGCSE dyslexic student received his A on a past paper! I am confident that my passion and experience are the qualities that will help my students improve.

About my sessions

I think the most important thing I can do as a teacher is to know my students. Taking the time to build a rapport, being as well as showing concern for their learning, is invaluable to building the esteem needed for my students to feel they can learn and make progress within the session.

Each student is different and will need an individualized academic support plan, therefore i will tailor my class structure according to the student.

In the first session, i will discuss the type of progress they hope to make and what specific goals they have in mind.

Moreover, in all lessons I will start of with a clear idea of the student's main aims set for that session. We will then debrief academic issues that have arisen since last session. I will work on both his/hers strengths and weaknesses in order to avoid diminishing their self esteem and to motivate them to do better. In the end of every lesson, we will agree on an assignement for the next session: a quiz, a movie in that specific language, a piece of homework or some revision work. If the student is working towards a final exam. ie. IGCSE, i will set a goal for course completion and create a timeline to reach all course milestones before the deadline.

Questions Carla has answered

How do I form regular superlative phrases and what is the difference between that and a comparative adjective?

A superlative is an adjective that takes a comparison to the highest or lowest degree and it compares 3 or more nouns. However, a comparative adjective is one that describes the difference between 2 nouns. To create a superlative that expresses "most" or a "greater" quality, we normally utilize the formula given below: definite article (el, la, los, las ) + más (most)  + adjective. For example: Mi madre es la mas responsable. (My mother is the most responsible)To create a superlative that expresses "least" or a "lesser" quality, we normally utilize the formula given below:definite article (el, la, los, las) + menos (least)  + adjective. For example: My prima es la menos inteligente de la familia. ( My cousin is the least intelligent of the family)A superlative is an adjective that takes a comparison to the highest or lowest degree and it compares 3 or more nouns.
