About me

Hi! I am a recent graduate from the University of Cambridge, where I achieved a 2.1 degree in English. I have teaching experience and love sharing my passion for this subject with others.

Hi! I am a recent graduate from the University of Cambridge, where I achieved a 2.1 degree in English. I have teaching experience and love sharing my passion for this subject with others.

My university experience has taught me how to clearly present ideas and structure essays in a way which is engaging. Having achieved 4 A*s at A-Level and 9 A*s / 3 As at GCSE, I have learnt how to structure revision and quickly identify ways of answering exam questions.

I studied English Literature at university because I love engaging with the ideas, opinions and beliefs of other people, and the way that they express themselves. Since this subject is not simply about learning facts and answering straightforward questions, having a good teacher who can engage with your questions and ideas is really important. I’d love to support you and hope that you can enjoy engaging with literature as much as I have.

Aside from my subject, I love music, and did a lot of singing and performing at university. I also am really passionate about social justice and took the opportunity to work with several NGOs during term-time, as well as during the holidays. I am now pursuing a career in international development, and will be continuing onto a Masters in International Education and Development.

About my sessions

Ultimately, my sessions will always aim to be as helpful for you as possible. When we first chat, we can identify together the key areas with which you struggle, or where most of your questions lie. From there, I will tailor my sessions to encourage and guide you through these tricky points. I always aim to make my sessions interactive and varied, and will always conclude with some key 'take-away' points for moving forward.

Some suggestions on the types of things we can work on include:

-getting to grips with your set texts and what they are about;

-essay structure and how to answer exam questions;

-comparing literary texts and writers;

-discussing ideas for coursework;

-using critics in your essays in a helpful way;

-explaining and using key literary terms;

-preparing for unseen passages.

I am very happy to read through example work, and we can consider together ways in which to improve your approach or ideas. When I was preparing for exams, I always found it helpful to think through what most interested me about a text, as that will necessarily result it a better essay. I will therefore make sure that our sessions are engaging, and not simply about assessment objectives, because I believe that is the key to studying English Literature.

Rebecca is amazing. My both children are enjoying her sessions and learning a lot in the same time. Our children are always looking forward to having a new lesson with Rebecca, and they are very eager to do the reading she assigns.
